INTRODUCTION:

For almost 2,000 young people, ages 11 to 18, George Abbot School is a cutting-edge institution offering an inclusive education. The institute is located in Burpham, Guildford, with strong transport connections to the neighborhood. We have a staff that is highly qualified and enthusiastic, and as a school, we are always looking for ways to improve the way we educate. This indicates that our pupils receive extraordinary learning benefits. We are part of a network of effective schools and can administer the Early Career Framework program and Initial Teacher Training to early career teachers across Surrey. We place a great priority on offering all teaching and support personnel the best possible continuing education opportunities.

Our outstanding amenities for sports, the visual and performing arts, ICT, as well as a variety of well-equipped science labs and general classrooms, make us proud of our excellent resources. We continue to be an aspiration and look for ways to make the learning environment better. We are a part of the Learning Partners Academy Trust and collaborate closely with several partner schools both locally and across the country.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

External applicants may also submit an application to George Abbot School for admission to the sixth form. There will be 15 external applicants accepted for entry into Year 12 in September, according to the published admission number, although there may be more openings depending on how many internal applicants are accepted. To be accepted into a program of subjects or courses, a student must meet the entry requirements. The Sixth Form Prospectus should be consulted by students for specific subject requirements. There can be a maximum number of students that a given subject can accept.

Oversubscription Criteria:

  • Children in Care and Those Who Have Been in Care in the Past

  • Exceptional Situations

  • Other candidates based on proximity to George Abbot School, calculated as a straight line from the student's home's address point, as determined by Ordnance Survey, to the closest student-accessible school gate. Calculated with the use of a Geographical Information System.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

George Abbot and other secondary schools in Surrey will offer spots based on the preferences listed on the application. Up to six selections from parents or carers will be ranked, and each one will be taken into account equally.

Before other candidates are taken into consideration, places will be assigned to children having an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) that specifically names George Abbot School. The number of children whose EHCP has George Abbot School listed will thus be divided by the number of spots available.

Entry standards are rather strict as the majority of sixth-form students enter with grades of A or B, however, some do so with lower marks. At the beginning of their sixth-form studies, students' attainment is generally higher than average.

CATCHMENT AREA:

The catchment area for the George Abbot School is in its location at Burpham, a Guildford suburb to the east.
