INTRODUCTION:

King Edward VI Five Ways School is a prestigious state grammar school that was founded in 1552. It is a selective school that is part of the "Schools of King Edward VI" and does not charge any fees to parents. The government funds the school's operations. With around 1,300 pupils, the school has a strong reputation for academic excellence and community-driven learning. It places a high value on creating a fun and productive learning environment. The school is dedicated to following the national curriculum and provides a wide range of materials for students to investigate. Every Wednesday, students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in their chosen readings. Additionally, students in Years 10 through 13 can participate in the ARETÉ super curricular awards program. This program is designed to develop and highlight their skills through carefully selected extracurricular activities.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

The Grammar Schools of Birmingham Consortium's admissions standards have been followed by all grammar schools in Birmingham since 2011. All potential Year 7 pupils at King Edward VI Five Ways School are chosen for admission based on their age-standardized, cumulative 11 Plus exam result. Not every youngster who meets the qualifying score will be given a spot at KEFW due to intense competition.

Oversubscription Criteria:

Children in foster care or those who were previously in foster care receive the required score based on a standardized ranking system.
Students who meet the requirements for the Pupil Premium by ranking order of the standardized score (up to 36 spots).
Additional kids who meet eligibility requirements based on standardized score ranking.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

The Grammar Schools of Birmingham Consortium requires online registration for your kid to be considered for one of the 180 Year 7 spots available through KEFW. A form called Local Authority Preference must also be filled out by parents.

While spots won't be assigned until March of the following year, exam results are expected to be released in October after the September 11+ exam.

EXAM FORMAT:

There are two test papers in the King Edward VI Five Ways 11 Plus exam, each lasting roughly sixty minutes. The papers are divided into separate, timed segments covering:

English Comprehension
Verbal Reasoning
Mathematics
Non-verbal + Spatial Reasoning

Comprehension skills such as inference will be tested in the English Comprehension paper without any writing involved.

The Verbal Reasoning section evaluates vocabulary, logical thinking, and the use of the English language.

The Mathematics test assesses students' problem-solving ability and basic mathematical operations, covering topics such as numbers, measurements, geometry, algebra, and statistics.

Additionally, nonverbal and spatial reasoning tests will be included in the exam to measure students' intellect and reasoning.

Both papers will cover every topic, and age-standardized scores will be applied to all multiple-choice questions to ensure that no student benefits more than others based on their age.

PREPARATION AND TARGET TEST SCORES:

Although some kids find the idea of taking the 11 Plus exam scary, your home doesn't have to worry excessively about the examination itself if you provide supportive parental guidance and effective review methods. Similar to Birmingham's King Edward Schools, KEFW is severely oversubscribed. Your child needs to complete a lot of 11 Plus revisions if they want to have the greatest possibility of being selected for one of the 180 Year 7 spots. If students are to finish all the questions on the 11+ exam, they must have exceptional time management skills; therefore make sure your child completes practice exams promptly.

The minimum admission score required by the school is 205. This is the minimal standardized score required to be considered for a position.
